Release date: 2006 (South Korea)
Finally! ... and with thanks to eggyplant ... it is done. I have finished watching all 24+ hours of last year's smash Korean TV hit: Palace. English summary of this fine comedy-drama can be found here. The plot revolves around the concept that modern day Korea has a constitutional monarchy, and, due to the machinations of a previous king, poor commoner, Chae-Kyung, ends up engaged then married to the Crown Prince, Shin. The 24 hours follows their love-hate relationship as Chae-Kyung struggles to integrate into palace life and Shin struggles to open up and let someone in.
Palace is a soap opera thru-and-thru-and-thru but it is done with humour, great sets, greater imagination, fine acting and a style that is a cross between Amelie and Northern Exposure. At its heart though is a wonderful (sigh) love story with characters that emote real feelings we've all known.
My rating 9 out of 10.
